Rioja Wine Tour – The Great Experiencia of Wine

BILBAO, ARRIVAL

Transfer from Bilbao to Logroño, capital of La Rioja, but on the way you will stop for a very personal first winery visit framed in the subregion Rioja Baja.

RIOJA BAJA

First stop at the vineyards, next to the urban cellar in the city Logroño.

Lunch is foreseen in a restaurant in Logroño (we will make the reservation on your behalf).

In the afternoon, we propose a guided private tour of Logroño (2 hours) followed by a fun pintxos tour; Laurel street is one of the main pintxos streets in all Spain and you cannot miss the experience.

Ready for a second day of wines, visit to two major bodegas in Rioja Alta subregion:

Back to Logroño, free evening.

LAGUARDIA

After breakfast, your driver will gently take you to Laguardia, in Rioja Alavesa wine region, where you will spend your two next days. Check-in, and be welcome by your local host, a personality in the city.

She will accompany you in a very personal city tour, a very unique experience that will unveil many secrets.

Then she will take you to an historical winery in the heart of town, Bodegas Primicia, dating back 1420. The place itself deserves to be visited, know about their wines and enjoy a hearty meal.

Free evening and enjoy like a local one of the most beautiful villages of Spain.

RIOJA ALAVESA

Let’s move today to Rioja Alavesa to explore a unique rioja region. Today you will discover two of the best Rioja wineries. First, step into the vineyards and discover the terroir of one of the most prestigious wine lands: the soils, the Sierra Cantabria mountain ranges, winds and rainfalls, everything counts.

After the visit, time for lunch, we will decide together whether you prefer a picnic option or a restaurant, and we will arrange it all.  

After a restorative meal, you will head to the second winery. You will taste first class wines all the day through.

At the end of the second visit, transfer to Laguardia. Free evening to enjoy the lovely Medieval small town at your own pace. We will provide nice addresses or you might have made your bucket list the day before.

SAN VICENTE DE LA SONSIERRA

You will leave Laguardia after breakfast towards Ezcaray, on the way you will stop in Elciego to admire the facade from Marqués de Riscal by Frank Ghery.

Then, keep going and reach the lovely city of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, where the dizzying views over the meanders of the Ebro river should not overshadow a walled town with a medieval bridge, wine presses and, of course, plenty of wineries.

After the lovely guided tour, it is time for the first winery today, and you will visit a unique family run bodega that will make you feel at home. Lunch in the winery will be set.

WINE BAR IN THE VINEYARDS

After lunch, en route towards Ezcaray, what a lovely pause it would be to sit amid the vineyards, be served some of the best bodega wines in a guided tasting and then, see the time passing by. When you feel ready, back to your car to arrive to Hotel Echaurren in Ezcaray.

EZCARAY

Internationally known for the mohair wool blankets. Loewe, Hermès, Armani o Céline are some of the clients. Since the 15th century we have had master carders, tundidores, dyers and weavers. The passage of time and industrialization provoked a single manufacturer has survived and he is the sole manufacturer left in Spain of craft Mohair, Cashmere and Alpaca wool blankets.

HARO'S STATION DISTRICT

It is time to visit Haro’s Station District, internationally known for concentrating the largest number of century-old wineries in the world. Some of the big names are located here such as Bodegas Muga, Viña Tondonia, CVNE, Bodegas Gómez Cruzado, Bodegas Rioja Alta and Bodegas Bilbaínas. Embark on a unique day visiting two of the most prestigious wineries, showing each a different face, the most rooted tradition and the new wave of oenologists all sharing a same territory and passion.

Depending on the time of the year and weather conditions you will enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride through the vineyards followed by a great wine tasting and picnic rustic lunch, a unique way to understand why this spot attracted some of the best winemakers.

Afterwards you will immerse in one of the oldest wineries in Haro and try some of their grandes reservas to appreciate their great aging potential. And before driving you back to the hotel, how does it sound to go and relax at the wine bar of some other mythic bodega?
