Burgos and Ribera del Duero, revitalizing destinations
This is a journey through Burgos and Ribera del Duero wine Golden Mile with time to explore the local culture, the deep-seated traditions and culinary delights of a wine region that represents the pinnacle of Spanish winemaking and the ultimate expression of Spain’s most noble red grape: Tempranillo.
But before reaching the oenophiles coveted region, Burgos unveils its beauty. One of the most charming cities of Spain, Burgos offers a Medieval-style historical center, in which the imposing Cathedral stands out in harmony with the most modern constructions, such as the fantastic Museum of Human Evolution. And remember Burgos is one of the key spots for all pilgrims who travel the French Way of the Camino de Santiago. The delicious gastronomy deserves special mention and you shouldn’t miss the famous Burgos black rice pudding (morcilla de arroz de Burgos), the rotten pot (olla podrida), the baby suckling lamb or the Castilian soup. Some of the best revitalizing comfort food.
In Ribera del Duero the native tinto fino (tempranillo vines adapted to Ribera del Duero soil) expresses its best character and energy in a peculiar microclimate of hot days and cool nights common to other prestigious wine regions such as Porto and Priorat. The result are elegant, intense and complex red wines.

IDEAL LENGTH: 5 NIGHTS ✧ WHEN TO GO: ALL YEAR ROUND
Day 1
BURGOS, ARRIVAL
Transfer to Burgos from Bilbao or Rioja to initiate your wine journey across Ribera del Duero.
BURGOS PRIVATE TOUR
Burgos is worth a stop and a close look. Its spired Gothic cathedral - that is a Unesco World Heritage site – is insane. Pure French Gothic combined with Castilian materials, it is like setting a filter of earthy tones. Inside it is not less remarkable. The Msueum of Human Evolution is one of the most important prehistoric archaeological sites in the world, in fact about 10 miles east from Burgos we find the Sierra de Atapuerca, one of the world’s most important and extensive archaeological sites where skeletal remains were discovered that are believed to be the earliest evidence of humans in Western Europe (they found the best preserved fossil of Homo Heidelbergensis).
BURGOS GASTRONOMY
The city is beautiful and lively, and gastronomy is a religion. Talented chefs and traditional coveted foods such as the sweet and addictive morcilla de Burgos (blood sausage with rice), the red peppers or its iconic roasted suckling baby lamb. And pintxos, yes, in Burgos you can enjoy the pintxos tradition too.
So, enjoy a private guided tour of the city before lunch at one of the most renowned restaurants in the region and in Spain, to taste the softest and most delicious suckling baby lamb ever.
Free afternoon-evening to stroll around or relax in your dream hotel.
Day 2
LERMA
This morning, depart towards the Ribera del Duero Golden Mile. But on the way, stop in Lerma for a short private guided tour. The ducal town presents a seignorial allure. Lerma occupies a strategic place on the banks of the Arlanza River, which is why throughout history it has become a crossroads.
The most outstanding historical moment of this town is linked to the presence of the Duke of Lerma, who after the transfer of the Court of Spain to Valladolid in 1601, tried to create his own court in Lerma. From that Golden Age in the 17th century Lerma preserves a beautiful heritage that has earned recognition as one of The Most Beautiful Towns of Spain.
RIBERA DEL DUERO FIRST STOP
Then, keep the road to your first winery in Ribera del Duero. A trip through a underground cellar from the 16th century is a unique experience, combined with a tasting of spectacular high-rated wines.
After lunch, transfer to Le Domaine Abadía Retuerta, a lovely luxury property in a former abbey from the 12th century with superb service and cuisine. The estate covers 1,730 acres with 500 acres of vineyards.
LE DOMAINE
Check-in and get ready to discover the finca. You'll be taken in a 4x4 tour around Abadía Retuerta estates, visit the winery and then the 12th century Abbey of Santa María de Retuerta (if no events are scheduled) followed by an exceptional wine tasting.
Free evening. The cuisine at the hotel is exquisite, if you want something light, we would suggest a lhaving dinner in a tapas style at the more casual restaurant Vinoteca, otherwise you can have a treat at the Michelin starred Restaurante Refectorio (dinners only).
Day 3
RIBERA DEL DUERO, DAY 2
Ready to keep exploring Ribera del Duero. In the second winery you will consolidate the region’s wine principles. Visit in exclusivity another of the most prestigious bodegas and taste some of the best wines internationally recognized.
Lunch is foreseen in another prestigious winery, this time we bet for a fine dining option to relax and enjoy a great pairing.
Free evening to unwind in your oasis of peace.
Day 4
RIBERA DEL DUERO, DAY 3
This morning we will continue exploring even deeper into the Ribera del Duero wine, and head northeastern to Aranda de Duero. Dive into underground cellars from the 16th and 17th century in historic wine villages and get to know an exciting project and more exciting wines.
SUCKLING BABY LAMB
Then enjoy the rich gastronomy in an "asador" (grill house) specialized in suckling baby lamb.
ARANDA DE DUERO
After lunch we propose a private guided of the beautiful city of Aranda de Duero and its historical old quarter that preserves the enchantment of other periods. Inside the old walls, Aranda reveals hidden charms, with a central district of medieval buildings, a verdant park with cypress trees lining the banks of the Duero river and an early-16th-century church, the Iglesia de Santa María.
Then way back to the hotel to unwind in your oasis. Free evening.
Day 5
DO RUEDA
Very close to Ribera del Duero we find D.O. Rueda, famous for mouth-watering whites filled with juicy citrus, floral and mineral flavors from verdejo native grape. Winemaking in Rueda has been documented as early as the 10th century and it was the first D.O. (Designation of Origin) to be approved in Castilla y León, in 1980. We propose a getaway to an amazing Rueda estate, a life project run by a native family.
Then, relax and indulge yourself in a gourmet lunch at 1-Michelin star La Botica or go for a more rustic dining experience.
Back to the hotel, free evening. Enjoy your last night of repose and de-stress.
Day 6
END OF JOURNEY

All the private excursions that she arranged were excellent. At some point during every tour our guide received a message from our agent checking in on how everything was going. We felt very well taken care of during our honeymoon and very thankful for all the assistance Valeska provided in making this dream vacation come true.
