WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT CÁCERES?

A little bit of history about Astorga history and the “maragatos”.

1. Cáceres city: very interesting

2. Fundación Helga de Alvear: contemporary art collection

3. Hiking routes in Ambroz Valley:

4. A German cemetery with the fallen in World Wars I and II

5. Guadalupe Monastery: UNESCO, and awarded with the sole Priztker award in Spain, Rafael Moneo is responsible for the extensions that were made at the end of the 20th century in the great monastery. It is true that the aesthetic (and logical) restrictions demanded in defense of heritage did not give him many wings to pull off a reinvention of Mudejar art, but it did leave some discreet brushstroke of his genius in the new dining room of the inn and in the gateway to this. Small details such as the use of copper or the zigzag entrance claim the portion of modernity, although perhaps Moneo’s greatest achievement is that nothing squeaks and that glory continues to be taken by the rest of the impressive monastery.

6. Siamese cathedrals of Plasencia: it is the union of two cathedrals, one Romanesque and the other Gothic.

7. Zafra: nnn

8. Trujillo, know the most outstanding corners and monuments of a city steeped in history: castle, palaces, churches, towers, manor houses and convents. An entire experience that will take you back in time and will make you feel what the inhabitants of a medieval town that was the residence of kings felt… During the tour, your guide will show you some of the most interesting photographic spots and corners. Trujillo is within the thematic Routes of the Discoverers, the Isabel la Católica Route, the Carlos V Route, among others.

9. Mérida, a trip to the times of Rome. UNESCO Heritage

But the culinary scene is not less impressive: roast suckling pig is the city’s specialty together with the creamy La Granja white beans (judiones de la granja) famous all over Spain!
