Day 1: Arrival at Malaga Airport (suggested airport) and transfer to Finca Arriate in Ronda, your private home for the coming week. In the evening, a tapas tour in Ronda old town will be the perfect opportunity to get to know each other while enjoying the beauty of the city, perched on the El Tajo river gorge.
Day 2: Delicious traditional Andalucian breakfast will start your day off every morning: fresh seasonal fruits, artisan bread, extra virgin olive oil, tomatoes, jamon iberico and local cheeses. Then we’ll drive to our first winery, a nearby organic vineyard of only three hectares - you don’t need more to produce a great wine and make a living, as you’ll see for yourself. From wine to olive oil: next stop will be at a nine-hectare artisan olive grove which has been producing olive oil for more than two centuries at 800 meters altitude. It is considered one of the best and most high-quality extra virgin olive oils in the world; Philippe Starck designed the label. The visit is led personally by a member of the project and is absolutely exceptional. Of course, we will stay for a memorable lunch at the old farmhouse. Back home in the afternoon for some rest, sunbathing or reading. In the evening a fine dinner at a restaurant in Ronda.
Day 3: Have you ever met the pure Iberian pig in his natural habitat? After breakfast we’ll head to one of the very few fincas that has exclusively bred pure acorn-fed Iberian pigs for three generations. There is no better opportunity to understand the legend of jamon iberico. This is an exclusive private visit; the farm is closed to the public. You will have chance to try one of the most typically Andalucian delicacies. With an exquisite taste in your mouth, we’ll drive down to Gaucin for a show-cooking lunch with our private chef. This beautiful whitewashed mountain village is just half an hour's drive from Costa del Sol. Its fascinating history and strategic location between sea and mountains have attracted a community of international artists for decades, and together with a flourishing gastronomy Gaucin offers one of the most seductive places in Malaga province. In the afternoon, a private guided tour with an art expert will reveal all the secrets of the town’s charm and glamour. In the evening we will have dinner at one of the most renowned restaurants in the province of Malaga, five minutes from home.
Day 4: Imagine yourself in a 15th century convent with original paintings, overlooking a breathtaking gorge over 100 meters deep dug hollowed out by the waters of Guadalevin river - that will be our morning visit. An inspiring journey through history, arts, creativity and lots of wine. An alfresco barbecue on one of the spectacular terraces will be our lunch.
Back home, in mid-afternoon it’s time to roll your sleeves up and get ready for a cooking session with our chef. Tonight we’ll stay at home to enjoy our homemade dinner (menu to be confirmed).
Day 5: It’s cheese day: time to venture up into the mountains and visit two artisan cheese-makers. First, we will meet a young couple involved in reviving the production of cheese from goat’s milk in the area. Second, we will drive up to a remote village at 858 meters above sea level and meet one of the smallest producers in Spain, whose sheep’s milk cheeses you will taste directly at their home. At lunchtime you’ll experience a real Spanish mother’s simple but tasty home-cooked meal. Back home, in the afternoon we’ll enjoy the second cooking class, another opportunity to learn new tricks and tips (menu to be confirmed).
Day 6: Our last day is devoted to savor Malaga and the coastline. We'll visit the old city, the food market and learn how to tapear like locals before heading to a fascinating cortijo in Malaga outskirts for a immersive cooking session surrounded by acres of gardens. After lunch, back to Ronda for some rest; early in the evening all our energy will be focused on preparing the farewell dinner. The larder will be full of fresh ingredients and the cellar will be well-stocked. The chef will surprise us with some exquisite menu ideas. Get dressed up for the final party, which may offer some delightful surprises.
Day 7: Departure
Which wines will we try? Red and white wines from Ronda, mostly organic from very small independent producers.
